Georgetown Hospital System is a not-for-profit, coastal Carolina regional health care system. When it opened in 1950, Georgetown Memorial Hospital had 50 beds and a 14-member medical staff. Through the years, beds were added as services and medical staff increased. Today, Georgetown Memorial Hospital has 131 patient beds, and is a full service facility that includes ICU and Step-Down beds, a Cardiac Cath Lab, Endoscopy, Surgical Services, Emergency Department, Labor and Delivery, Pediatrics and several telemetry-equipped medical-surgical nursing units.

In 2002, Waccamaw Community Hospital (WCH) opened to meet the needs of the rapidly growing service area just south of Myrtle Beach. WCH has added beds in two separate expansions and today has 111 beds. Service capabilities at WCH closely parallel those available at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Waccamaw Community Hospital is located in Murrells Inlet, SC.

Projects:

Georgetown Memorial Hospital
Georgetown Health System is replacing the Georgetown Memorial Hospital with the construction of a new 159 bed facility on a new site in Georgetown, SC. The project is currently programmed at approximately 275,000 – 300,000 sf of departmental space plus central plant. The facility will consist of:
• Patient Beds – 159 Total
• Labor & Delivery - 4 LDR's, Level II Nursery
• Surgery - 7 O.R.'s, 2 Cath Labs
• Imaging – 16 Rooms
• Emergency – 18 Beds
• Dialysis

Waccamaw Community Hospital
WCH, opened in 2002, is an 180,000 sf facility designed and built as a full services community hospital. Constructed around and incorporating the Palmetto Same Day Surgery Center, WCH has expanded with the following NLB planned projects:
• Rehab bed expansion
• ICU bed expansion and 3rd floor build-out
• 4th floor vertical expansion

Francis B. Ford Cancer Treatment Center
In 2004, Georgetown Hospital System opened a free standing $10 million cancer treatment center. The cancer center offers local cancer patients the opportunity to receive both chemotherapy and radiation therapy without leaving the county. The project was undertaken as a joint effort with Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) well-known Hollings Cancer Center.

Imaging Center at Waccamaw Medical Park
A new advanced Imaging Center at Waccamaw Medical Park located in Murrells Inlet across from Waccamaw Community Hospital. The dedicated outpatient facility opened in summer 2006 and offers state of the art open MRI and breast imaging capabilities. A Breast Health Center within the building offers routine breast screening and diagnostic imaging capabilities. The Breast Health Center is the first to offer digital mammography to women in Horry and Georgetown counties, including MRI Breast Coil technology and stereotactic breast biopsy services.
